Today is a “I hate technology” day!!!

My site is growing and my site traffic is increasing so my hosting company moved me to a new server. Apparently in the switch they didn’t quite move everything so now things aren’t working properly. A HUGE is issue is my email has basically disappeared, which is just awesome! Aruba Wedding Photography : Destination Wedding : Megan & Andrew

My wife and I had the awesome privilege of shooting Megan and Andrew’s wedding in Aruba on a beautiful private island. If you are getting married you should get married here (period)! It’s perfect, no decorating needed… why, oh because it’s a freaking paradise that's why!!! Any time flamingos walk through your ceremony site at will you know you’ve pick a great place to get married. I’ve shot a few weddings in Aruba and while it is an unbelievably gorgeous place the only thing that makes it better is being able to hang out with Megan and Andrew and their totally crazy, fun, rad, crazy and a bit more crazy crew of family and friends that they brought with them. It was a nonstop party of awesomeness with a bunch of side hurting laughter! As with most of my couples I now consider Megan and Andrew great friends, plus there are some huge perks to being Andrews friend… Speaking of which, I think I need another box of goodies Andrew. You know what I mean ;)

The first few photos are just some shots I took while touring around Aruba… I didn’t think you all would mind a few non-wedding photos ;) And then it jumps straight into Megan and Andrews crazy wedding of funtasticness!!!

I’d love to say that this photo just happened by sheer coincidence, but the truth is I totally created it. I found the chair, I put it next to the window and asked Ying (the beautiful bride) to sit in it and look longingly out the window. I had the final product (what you see below) in my mind the entire time and I wanted to create it. Yes, it's nice when things just happen, and to be a great photographer you have to be able to anticipate those things and be prepared to capture them, but at the same time you also have to have vision and be able to execute it. Thoughts?

Effortless is the word I would use to describe Kristen and Jon. Whatever the “goods” are they have it and I love it!!! If they we a choice in a vending machine I would definitely punch in their number. Their wedding, while I know there was a ton of effort that was put into it, both by Kristen and Jon and the always amazing Kate Miller, seemed just as effortless. I could get all cheese-ball on how beautiful it was and how much love Kristen and Jon have for each other and how… blah blah blah blah blah… But instead I’ll just say this:

It’s safe to say that Aimee and I go way back, and I mean WAY back… I’m pretty sure we were in the same 2nd grade class together and we actually dated for a few years in High School. Go Trojans! Yep, that was our mascot! So I guess you could say that we know each other pretty well ;) Through it all we’ve remained really good friends and after meeting Brad and getting to know him a little more I could not be happier for her. As a surprise to Aimee I was able to put together a few photos from their engagement shoot for a slide show that was being shown at Aimee’s bridal shower. The word on the street is she started crying when she saw the photos… Mission accomplished!!! I try to make my brides cry whenever possible… in a good way of course ;)

Hume Lake : My Happy Place

If you are currently breathing and you have never been to Hume Lake you need to!!! Especially if you are between the ages of 8 and 18 or if you have kids between those ages you definitely need to go to Hume Lake for summer camp! It's the best place on the planet. I spent some of the best weeks of my life here and now I'm here on vacation with my family. It's actually my wife's favorite place on the planet as well, which works out nicely when it comes to family vacation time ;) Anyways... here's a few boat shots from earlier today.

Destination Wedding Photography : Ireland Wedding Photography

Kim and Nathan love each other!

They wanted to prove that to each other and the world by getting married in the dead of winter in Ireland in an old castle with absolutely no heat!!! Mission accomplished. And while it was freezing, it was also AMAZING! We landed in Ireland with our good friend Julie Hill of Elysium Productions and all of Ireland was cover in snow… literally the entire island! The snow eventually melted, solely from the burning hot love of Kim and Nathan ;) and we ended up having such a mind numbing good time… or maybe we were just numb from the cold ;) Here are a few of my favs from their day…

oh yeah, Kim wore a red wedding dress which was FANTASTIC!!! Way to go Kim ;)

Chico Videography : Briana & Matt’s Day of Edit

It’s a little know fact, but we here at studioTHP actually do cinematography as well. We did our first “day of edit” at Briana and Matt’s wedding in Chico, CA last year. See there photos below. Everyone was dancing their faces off towards the end of the wedding while we set up the huge video screen. We made a quick announcement and hit play. Everyone stood in amazement that they were actually seeing footage from that day. As the video ended Briana was crying…tears of joy of course ;) and then the whole crowd went absolutely crazy!!! I was so proud of my team and it couldn’t have gone any better. More videos to be hitting the THP blog soon!

Johnny & Halina : Destination Wedding : New Zealand Wedding Photography

HAPPY 2011 EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

For the first post of 2011 I wanted to share one of my recent destination weddings… NEW ZEALAND!!! I absolutely loved it there, it’s such a beautiful country and I desperately want to go back. In fact I am strongly considering spending my “off season” (Dec - Feb) there as it is their prime time wedding season. I was in Wellington for my entire trip and I can’t wait to explore the rest of the country in future trips. So if you are getting married in New Zealand or even Australia PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contract me as I’d love to spend more time over there and I’m more than willing to HOOK YOU UP!!!

Now onto Johnny & Halina’s wedding! You know when you meet someone and you just feel like you’ve known them forever, that’s how I felt with these two. They are so much fun to be around and they were so easy to work with. I’m sure it helps to be a big shot model/dance star like Halina is, but Johnny held his own as well. Maybe Kiwi’s are just cool like that ;) We got to tour around to a few different places in Wellington, but I was able to find these grassy hills and I absolutely love what we were able to do with it. I was hoping to get Halina riding on a sheep, but that never happened…maybe on my next trip to NZ we can tackle that one.

Ireland...I kissed a rock...

I had a little free time this evening...yes, it's night time here in Ireland so I thought I would post a shot from todays outing to Blarney Castle. Ever hear of the Blarney Stone? It's a stone at the top of the Blarney Castle in Cork, Ireland and apparently when you kiss it it brings you success...I'm not much for superstition, but I went ahead and made out with it anyway. You have to lay on your back basically hanging over the top of the castle and kiss the rock. Kinda crazy! Well I'm off to bed, gotta shoot a wedding tomorrow ;)

I’m leaving on a jet plane...

Hello Everyone!

I thought I would give you all an update on my travels over the next few weeks. I’m going to New Zealand to shoot a wedding and then as soon as I get home my wife and I leave for Ireland to shoot another wedding. We’re so excited!!! You can see my/our crazy trip mapped out as if a 4 year old drew it, no offense 4 year olds ;) but it will give you an idea of where I/we will be. Only 6 flights are displayed, but the truth of the matter is I’ll be on 14 different flights within 17 days. I just suddenly got very tired… Okay I’m awake again ;) Packing for spring/summer in New Zealand and "freeze our tushies off dead of winter cold" in Ireland has proven challenging, but when it’s all said and done it should be an amazing few weeks. I’m hoping the photos will capture all the uniqueness that these two destinations have to offer. Here’s to airplane food and real Guinness ;)

On a side note… If you are trying to get a hold of me and it takes me a little longer than usual to respond just look at the map below and you’ll see there’s a very good chance I’ll be 30,000 feet in the air trying to get some rest. New Engagement Video : Megan & Derek

Soon, well relatively soon at least, there will be some huge announcements and some great changes/updates to THP. We have been working very hard and we are super excited to start rolling out some of our new ideas and team members to you all. Until then we hope you enjoy this little movie we made from Megan and Derek's engagement shoot. The concept was "Date Night", even though we technically shot it at 9 in the morning, and Megan and Derek did such an amazing job. We had a blast hanging out with you guys. By the time we all got to 58 Degrees (which you all should try out next time you are in Downtown Sacramento, because it's cool and they have wine on tap, CRAZINESS) it was 10am, so yes, we were drinking wine before noon... we had fun though!

Sonoma Wedding Photography : Rebecca & Scott's Anthropologie Wedding

This was one of the very rare occasions where I actually met Rebecca & Scott for the first time on their wedding day. We had spoken on the phone and had email back and forth, but no face time had been logged yet. And to be honest I wasn't worried in the least bit... we hit it off right away and had a killer time taking pictures all day. Their wedding was at the amazingly beautiful Chateau St. Jean in Sonoma CA and it was coordinated by one of my favorite people and event planner extraordinaire Sarah (G-Dawg) Ghazzagh!!! If you are looking for a venue and planner you need to contact these guys because they will blow your mind with pure wedding awesomeness!!!

Apparently Rebecca, being the cool girl that she is and all, has some connections with Anthropologie so the word on the street is that Anthropologie might use some of these photos for their new wedding line they are debuting at the end of the year. Which is going to be freaking amazing by the way! I'm just honored to even be considered, but deep down I'm jumping for joy that it's a possibility. We'll see what happens ;)

Thanks Rebecca and Scott for being so ridiculously fun to work with and I'll look forward to hanging out with you guys in DC next time I'm there!!!

Lily + David = pure picture bliss!!!

I had so much fun with Lily and David at their wedding last March at the Bently Reserve in San Francisco! They did a "First Look" which I couldn't recommend any higher for your wedding. I remember meeting with Catherine & Scott in a Starbucks in Vacaville. We immediately hit it off and then we totally solidified our friendship at their engagement shoot a few months ago in Napa. Catherine works for Sledgehammer Games, they make a little game called CALL OF DUTY, maybe you've heard of it ;) We'll Catherine asked me to shot their staff which was AWESOME. Then I had the great honor of shooting their wedding this past weekend... yeah, like 3 days ago!!! I had to post a few shots from their wedding, because it was at Radonich Ranch in Los Gatos and oddly enough my in laws took their wedding photos their over 30 years ago. When I found out that bit of info on the drive there I was a little skeptical to be honest, but then I saw the place...FIREWORKS!!! I absolutely love this venue now! It's perfect and the food was amazing. Best strawberries I've ever had. Their website is a bit lacking, but in person this place is amazing! If you are getting married anywhere near the Bay Area I highly recommend checking this place out. Okay, enough of that, on to the photos...

I SUPER DUPER LOVE PUTTING THE TWO TOGETHER!!!!!

Sure, anyone can come and shoot your wedding, but when I started my business I wanted to make deeper connections then just "working together". I wanted to remain friends and hang out with my couples whenever possible. Candice and Garrent are a prime example of that. Last year my wife and I flew to NYC to photograph Candice and Garrent's Wedding. We had such an amazing time with them and we can't wait to go back and hang out with them again. We all love Katz Deli and even now as I write this my mouth is water so I guess we need to get back to NYC as soon as possible. Here are a few shots from their wedding at the beautiful Stonehouse.

When Briana and Matt sat down with me for their initial meeting the first words out of Briana's mouth were, "We are going for a vintage elegance kinda of theme..." I was hooked! Then I got to know them a little better and I was even more hooked. After they booked with me we started to talk about their engagement shoot and the ideas just started flowing. They were down for anything and when they showed up and popped open a bottle of champagne I knew we were going to have a blast, and we did!

Seriously I love this city! If I was going to live anywhere else I think Austin might be it. If you're from California you may know what I mean when I say that Austin, TX is a perfect blend of NorCal and SoCal... and Megan & Grayson can be described the same way. They are super cool and we became instant friends (or at least I thought we did) ;) We shot at the "make you want to be a pack rat" Cathedral of Junk and I must say it is one of my favorite places to shoot EVER! I'm sure it didn't hurt that I was there with such a great couple...thanks for being so much fun to work with. Can't wait to hang out again at your wedding!!!

So I have been horrible at blogging mainly because I literally have been shooting every day or emailing all day long. So today I decide to not even look at my email and just sit down and blog a wedding!!! I have so many cool weddings and engagement shoots from last year that I have not blogged yet so I am going to try to get as many up as I can over the next few weeks. Granted I will be in SoCal doing 4 shoots and Ezra 4th B-Day at Disneyland at the end of the month, but after that get ready for a slew of wedding and engagement shoots to flood the blog. So Natalie and John are the kind of people that when I actually buy a home I hope that we get neighbors like them. After their engagement shoot in Colorado, we sat down on their coach and had a beer and just hung out for a while. Three cheers for Zion because he made it to his 2nd birthday!!! If you've ever spent time with Zion you will know how amazing this accomplishment really is. He's our little crazy dare devil that can't sit still for more than 10 seconds, but he made it and we are darn proud of him! Happy birthday little buddy!!!

This past week my family and I were in Austin Texas shooting my sister in laws wedding at which our boys were the ring bearers. I was about 99% sure that they were going to see all the people looking at them and cry their eyes out and run the other way, it was going to be a complete disaster I thought. Let's just say they hit this one out of the park. Way to go Ezra and Zion. Just another reason why my kids are the coolest kids on the planet ;) And just so you know you can rent them for your wedding, but they are pretty darn expensive ;)

White Trash Christmas Card

I had the honor of shooting my sisters Christmas card photo this year. The theme was "White Trash" and I think we hit it out of the park!!! The hardest part was actually taking the photo because I was laughing so hard. Dylan (my brother in law) freak'n killed it. He was so into his character and can rock the daisy duke's like nobodies business... well done D. And yes, Boston (that would be the baby on my sister's lap) is sucking on his big toe... just PERFECT! I'm going to venture to say that this might just be the best Christmas card ever!!!

To the Bruce family: Love you guys and thanks for bringing my vision to life. Can't wait till next year ;)

Katherine & Scott's Engagement Photos (Sacramento, CA)

Katherine and Scott literally live down the street from me so we opted to carpool to their engagement session in my Prius, if that isn't green then I don't know what is ;) And that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Anyways, we had SOO MUCH FUN together and as you may know, I'm a huge fan of couples that are totally in love with each other and know how to have a good time. Katherine and Scott fit that profile to a massive "T". Apparently Scott was a bit nervous, but about 30 seconds into the shoot he busted out of his shell and never looked back. Meanwhile Katherine looks scary similar to Hayden Panettiere and is a total rock star in front of the camera. Here is a massively long post from their engagement shoot I shot yesterday... yep, I said yesterday! How's that for catching up.

I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for the lack of blogging this past month. I have been traveling and shooting a TON, so the blogging time has been pushed to the back burner. Well actually I just put it in some Tupperware and threw it in the freezer for a while ;) I just got a print of this photo I shot at Natalie and John's wedding (their ridiculously awesome wedding will be posted soon) and I thought I would share it with you all. It might be one of my favorite photos ever, I'm thinking about selling it to Ikea.

New Client Meeting Room

So I just moved into a new house... That makes 29 moves in 27 years of life! Crazy, I know. I can pack a moving truck like no bodies business though. So in our new house I get an entire room just to meet with clients... it's going to be AWESOME!!! There's just one problem... I have to fill the walls with some canvas and you know how much I just hate ordering NEW HUGE CANVASES!!! ;) Here are 2 that I'm deciding between. It's the same main image, but the first one is what I call the "THP Story Canvas", it's literally the entire story of your wedding on one ginormous canvas and the second one is just the main image, which is totally worthy of canvas awesomeness all by it's self. Chris & Jess' ARUBA wedding!!!

A few months ago I had one of the best times at a wedding... not sure if the location had anything to do with it... ARUBA!!! When I booked the wedding I told my good friend Michael Norwood that I was shooting a wedding in Aruba and he quickly signed up to be my second shooter. My wife wasn't to happy about that, but Michael got me into the business and so I kinda owed him one ;) So we get to Aruba and the first thing we do is rent scooters, HOLY CRAP THEY WERE AWESOME!!! We went everywhere, even to the "bad part of town" at night, which wasn't the smartest thing to do, but we still had a blast.

Chris and Jess are... well, PERFECT! Super nice, relaxed, beautiful, a little on the wild side, and down for some crazy party'n! We had such a good time and we got some pretty killer shots. Again it helps when you're on a private island with freak'n flamingos walking around!

Senior Portrait Models / Runway Boutique

I had an opportunity today to shoot some advertisement photos for my good friend Robin over at Runway Boutique in El Dorado Hills. She has a great boutique of some killer ladies fashions. If you're ever in the area stop by and throw up some hi fives!

On a side note, I really want to incorporate this style of shoot into my THP Senior Portraits. When it comes to Senior Portraits you know that I am not a huge fan of the cheesy "lean up against a tree and smile in a letterman's jacket" kind of thing. I flew back to Baltimore/D.C. to meet up with Marie and Kevin for their engagement shoot. I basically hung out with them for a few days and even got to sleep in Kevin's spare room. I love San Diego... and it just so happened that I got a chance to go there with my wife to shoot a wedding last month. It took place in La Jolla at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Mindy and Andrew and all of their friends are some ridiculously smart MIT grads, but they sure know how to have a good time ;) We had a blast walking around La Jolla snapping some shots and making complete fools of ourselves. My wedding this past weekend was at this really cool venue, Grand Island Mansion. It's this old victorian mansion with a ton of risque art all over the walls. You know me... I got home from Denver tonight just in time to see one of the craziest lightning storms that has ever passed through Northern California. Over a 1000 strikes so far and no signs of slowing down. A few months ago I was in San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park shooting the dung out of Mindy and Andrew. I first met Sophia and Denby at their family restaurant in Southern California. We chatted for a while and then I knew that we were going to be a great fit when they started bringing out the food. SOOOO Good!!! A few months later I found out that I would be working their event with Carolyn Chen from The Special Day (event design & coordination) & Julie Hill from Elysium Productions (videographer extraordinaire) and I was that much more excited to be working with Sophia and Denby. It was an absolute beautiful day at the Hyatt Huntington Beach which if you are looking for a venue this one ain't bad at all ;) Not to sound cheezy, but Sophia and Denby's wedding was PERFECT! It got me to thinking how important your vendors are. They really can make or break one of the most important days of your life. And Sophia and Denby sure know how to pick some top notch vendors!!! Well done guys. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into choosing the right people for your awesome day, it sure paid off.

Senior Portraits THP Style!!!

Being that I now live very close to the high school I graduated from (Oak Ridge, WHAT WHAT!!!) I have been wanting to get into the Senior Portrait market. My idea for great senior portraits is a high end photo shoot, at rockn' locations with unlimited outfits and magazine quality photos. Plus I'm a huge fan of doing the shoot with a few of your friends (The BFF Shoot). Put all of that together and you get THP Radtastic Senior Portraits!

I got together with Blake, Hillary, Jaslyn & Lauren last week to do their BFF Senior Portraits. It was freakn' AWESOME!!! We had such a great time and they were so easy and fun to work with. This past weekend I was in Huntington Beach shooting Sophia and Denby's totally rockn' wedding. Besides Sophia and Denby being just a ridiculously kick booty couple they can also pick vendors like nobodies business. This post will only highlight 2 vendors in particular. First we have Carolyn Chen of The Special Day. She freaking blow up this party with all of her awesomeness! One of the best and easiest coordinators to work with in Southern California! I knew she was good when I got the timeline and everything worked, perfection! Hire her!!! Next we have my new BFF... none other than Julie Hill from Elysium Productions. They are literally one of the best videographers in the world. I don't recommend that many videographers, but I have recommended Elysium a number of times, but now that I've had the privilege of working with them, they are hands down my number one choice in southern california (they travel world wide as well). Without a doubt they need to do your wedding video!!!

A huge thanks to Sophia and Denby for being so good at picking their vendors. And to Carolyn and Julie... Until next time ladies... maybe in Cabo ;)

I absolutely loved this venue and Traci and Josh brought the awesomeness as well. They are a super cool couple and I am honored to call them friends now. Traci should be a super model and I'm actually hoping to use her for a shoot I've got coming up for Runway Boutique. Needless to say we had a killer time and I'm really happy with how their images turned out. I think I see an album in their future ;) Enjoy!

Here is a photo from Clarence and Maggie's radtastic engagement shoot I have been working on. I wanted to try something a bit different and I super excited with how it turned out. One word for you... CANVAS!!! If you couldn't tell, I'm a huge fan of canvas. They are everywhere in my office and house for that matter. I just might have to order this one for my studio as well ;) Hope you likey!

Zion's in Shape Magazine!!!

My wife and I always knew that we had the cutest kids on the planet, but every parent thinks that ;) So when we thought about getting them into modeling we didn't really have high hopes. We're not the type of people that try to make money off our kids, but we figured if while they are young they can do some cool shoots and have some good experiences then let's go for it. When we signed them up with their agent from City Model Management, INC. we honestly were not expecting much. But, when we got the call informing us that Zion had been chosen for a Shape Magazine editorial photo shoot were were pretty excited to say the least.

I went with Zion to the shoot in SF and we had a great time. Being a photographer I was totally into it. The incredible Ericka McConnell was the photographer for the shoot, she was great and her photos are off the chart! It made me really want to get into commercial photography. Zion did an amazing job and I am super impressed with how everything turned out. A great experience all around. Check out the spreads and then go out and buy a copy for yourself ;)

Brent + Victoria :: Engagement Photos

When Brent and Victoria booked me I had a feeling their engagement shoot was going to kick some major bootay! And then when we landed on Napa as our location I was convinced we were going to bring the awesomeness and freaking kill this shoot. Brent and Victoria were so unbelievably easy to work with. I am totally looking forward to their wedding at the end of May, going to be crazy!!! I hope you all enjoy the photos. I see some huge canvas orders in my near future ;)

A New Canvas & The Cutest Kids on the Planet!!!

I just finished designing an album and I came across this shot I took at Tina & Jimmy's Wedding (I'll be blogging them soon) of Tina's bouquet in a mail box. It got me thinking that I need a canvas of some bouquets I shot over this past year... So this is what I came up with. And then there's a shot of my boys. Dagnabit they are cute!!!

Clarence and Maggie are this really great couple that I have the privilege of shooting their wedding and engagement photos. You know when you meet someone and they are just really awesome... that would be Clarence and Maggie. There's just something about them that makes you feel so comfortable around them. We did their engagement shoot in San Francisco a few months ago and hey asked me if I could design their save the date cards. Heck yeah! This is what I came up with. Let me know what you think.

World Famous Barber Jon's just so happens to be the coolest Barber shop on the planet! Jon and I have become great friends over the 10+ years he's been cutting my hair. I've watched his shop grow from a small 2 chair shop way back in the day to a flourishing 7 chair shop of awesomeness!
